A Whisper of Hope

No One Knew Who Would Receive the Letter

No one knew who would receive the letter. A mother and her son wrote it using simple, caring words. As they wrote about how people's lives have great value, God already knew who would read it. That person was AJ.

It all began when three families from two local churches walked down a snow-covered sidewalk in Edmonton, Alberta. The children were bundled up and carried paper bags filled with something special. The families were from Barrhead Alliance Church, a partner of ShareWord Global. They had been trained and were ready to share their faith in a warm and natural way.

Inside each bag was a small treat, a Gospel of John, and a handwritten letter. As the families walked, the parents showed their children how to share their faith through simple, friendly conversations with the people they met.

During the visit, one young boy walked up to AJ, a man struggling with addiction. The boy spoke to him kindly, without fear or judgment. He handed him the bag and prayed for him with the kind of pure heart adults often lose. His gentle actions reminded everyone that real love is shown when we draw near to someone, not when we step away.

AJ sat on the cold sidewalk and opened the little bag with stiff fingers. His coat and winter hat showed how cold the day was. But the look in his eyes showed something deeper—a weight he had carried for a long time. As he read the letter, his tired posture made that even clearer.

Before the team of families left, the boy's mother took a quick photo of the moment. Later, they noticed something in the picture that none of them had seen that day. Behind AJ, written on the metal wall, someone had painted these words:

"To the person reading this graffiti:
You matter.
You are important, loved, and appreciated.
Don't stop trying… you are amazing!"

A letter written by a family who didn't know who would read it.

A piece of graffiti painted by a stranger long before.

A simple prayer spoken by a child.

A Gospel of John sharing the same truth AJ found on the wall.

Four different messages reaching one man at the same moment, with one clear message of hope: You matter.
