What Happens After the Goodbye?
Divorce is becoming more common in Peru. In recent years, the number of couples ending their marriages has grown from 2% to 7%.*
This change is affecting families across the country. Many children and teens are learning how to live with new routines, difficult emotions, and the sadness that comes when parents separate. Home, once a place that felt safe and steady, can suddenly feel uncertain.
Behind these statistics are real people with real struggles.
Two of those people are Mía and Leonardo.
The brother and sister live in Ica, a city in southern Peru known for its vineyards and the beautiful Huacachina oasis. While their city seemed peaceful, life at home was hard. Their parents were going through a separation, and the family was hurting.
One day, a team from Iglesia Kadosh (Kadosh Church), a partner Church of ShareWord Global, met Mía and Leonardo in a local plaza while sharing the gospel. As they talked, the emotions the siblings had been holding inside for so long came pouring out. The pain had become too much to carry alone.
Although their mother worked hard at the local market, and did everything she could for her children, Mía and Leonardo still felt lonely. It wasn't because they weren't loved. The changes in their family had left them feeling emotionally alone.
By God's grace, the church team was ready to listen.
With kindness and compassion, they shared the Chispa (Spark) magazine with the siblings. Together they read verses about God's unfailing love, healing power, and promise to never leave His children. As Mía and Leonardo opened up about their struggles, they asked for prayer for their family. They believed God could bring healing to their situation.
It was a special moment. Two young hearts turned to God and trusted Him with their pain.
Even though their family situation remained difficult, it became a turning point in their lives. Mía and Leonardo began opening their hearts to Jesus. The church invited them to youth meetings. There they found a safe and welcoming place filled with supportive friends.
Today, they attend regularly, growing in their faith and learning that God is still at work, even during hard times. Their story is not finished, but they now face the future with a new confidence: God is with them.
And it all started because someone shared the hope of the gospel.
