More Than a Bill
In the town of Melipilla, Chile, Marisol walks the same streets almost every day. She’s known in her community, not just for delivering electricity bills, but for something much more powerful—her unwavering hope.
Marisol is currently battling breast cancer. The treatment is hard. The days are long. But even in this difficult season, she’s decided to give her life to one thing—sharing the gospel.
And she’s doing it with boldness.
Tucked under her arm each day is more than just a stack of bills—she also carries a Hope magazine. As she moves through the village delivering notices, she takes every chance to stop and speak with her neighbours. She talks about power outages and payments but always brings it back to the hope she’s found in Jesus.
Marisol has seen the tension in her neighbourhood. “We’re going through hard times,” she said. “There’s so much fighting. We need more hope in our community.”
As she delivered the bills, she noticed that many were in a bad mood—tired, anxious, weighed down. So, she offered them something more. “Neighbour,” she said, “beyond this electricity bill, I want to give you the gift of hope. I want you to rest in God, and that faith and hope would grow in you, just like it has in me.”
People stopped to listen. And many smiled and thanked her.
One day, after making her rounds, she called her pastor full of joy. “Yesterday I shared the gospel with 32 neighbours while delivering electricity bills!” she said. The pastor was surprised. “How can you be doing this when you’re sick?” the pastor asked.
Her answer was simple: “I’m not afraid. Not even of death. Because the hope I’ve found in Jesus is greater than anything in this life.”
You don’t need perfect circumstances to make a difference. You just need the kind of courage that comes from knowing Jesus.
Marisol’s story reminds you that the light of Christ shines best in dark places. And sometimes, it doesn’t take much—just a walk across the street, a word of encouragement, and a heart full of hope.
