A Burden too Heavy
“...Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
God does not want you to carry your burdens alone.
In a world that often tells you to “tough it out” and “keep going no matter what,” it’s easy to believe that you must face your struggles on your own. But Jesus offers us something radically different—you and I have a God who tells us to come to Him, to give Him our burdens, and that He will give us REST.
This was a message Geraldine desperately needed to hear.
She had been carrying a burden too heavy to bear any longer.
Her marriage had been unraveling for some time, and the pain of separation weighed heavily on her heart. Her two children, caught in the middle, were hurting deeply. Though Geraldine had once known the Lord, life’s hardships had pulled her away from church, from community, and from hope. She had been carrying her own worries—and they were crushing her.
But God hadn’t forgotten her.
At a loss for what to do next, Geraldine entered the doors of Jesús El Buen Church in the Pueblo Nuevo district of Chincha city, south of Lima, seeking family counseling. Even though it had been a long time since she had been to church, Geraldine found nothing but love and kindness from Pastor Fredy. He spoke with her gently, offering comfort and encouragement as she poured out her heart.
As their conversation unfolded, Pastor Fredy handed her a copy of the Esperanza (Hope) magazine, provided by ShareWord Global. He guided her to a passage he believed would speak to her situation—Psalm 42.
As Geraldine read the words, something stirred deep within her. Verses like Psalm 42:5-6 were now coming to life:
“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!...”
The Psalm spoke to her situation in a way that felt timely. As she read the words, she felt a sense of calm begin to settle over her. It didn’t erase the pain or fix everything instantly, but it reminded her that she wasn’t alone—and that hope was still possible.
From that point on, Geraldine began attending church more regularly. She made the decision to reconnect with her faith and reconcile with God. Her family situation remains complex, and there are still challenges ahead, but she’s no longer trying to carry it all by herself.
She’s found support, encouragement, and a renewed sense of direction. And while things aren’t perfect, she’s moving forward with a steadier heart.
There are many others like Geraldine—people who are carrying more than they were meant to bear. If you know someone who’s struggling, consider sharing the hope you’ve found.
Jesus invites the weary to come to Him—not to be fixed overnight, but to find rest for their souls. His burden is light, and His arms are open.
