No Where to Run
Dominique had to escape.
After enduring a very difficult and complicated relationship with someone she had been living with, the 20-year-old woman finally found the courage to leave. She packed her things and returned to her mother’s house, hoping for a safe place to restart.
But her mother’s lifestyle was far from stable. Marijuana smoke lingered in the home, mingling with her mother’s strange beliefs and a free-spirited, go-with-the-flow way of life.
Dominique had grown used to the chaos—but that day, something different found its way in. One afternoon, Dominique was on the street, selling second-hand clothes and handmade necklaces—doing what she could to get by—when a team of volunteers from ShareWord Global’s local church partner Generación de Fe Misión Villa Alemana approached her. When the conversation about the gospel began, she seemed hesitant, almost distracted. At times, it was difficult to tell if she was really listening, her attention drifting in and out. The team wondered to themselves if she may have even been under the influence of something.
And yet, they stayed.
They continued to share the gospel and introduced her to the Hope magazine—a collection of Scriptures filled with Bible verses of encouragement. As they flipped through the pages together, everything changed. It was as if her understanding had sprung open at the same time. One moment it looked like she wasn’t paying any attention at all. The next, her expression changed, and her heart seemed to open in a new way.
As the team and Dominique read together the prayer of commitment from the final page of the magazine, these words rolled from their lips... “God, I know I am a sinner, and I believe that your Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins on the cross…”. But, suddenly, Dominique lifted her head.
“Paid for my sins?” she asked in a voice full of emotion.
The moment was glorious, Dominique’s eyes lit up, fully awake and aware. She had completely resonated with the gospel message she just heard.
Before leaving, the team connected her with the Pastor. Dominique wrote down her number, and the church continues to minister to Dominique to this day.
Dominique heard the gospel on a street corner—right where she was, right when she needed it.
She had spent years running from one bad situation to another. But that day, everything changed. Through a simple magazine and the Christ-like care of a local church, she discovered she could stop running and start living in the loving arms of Jesus.
There are people like Dominique all around us—on sidewalks, in waiting rooms, across the street—longing for someone to reach out. You don’t have to go far to make an impact; sometimes, it starts with a conversation, a prayer, or a simple act of kindness
Together, we can tell the world.
