Every Moment an Opportunity
Tampa is full of distractions. White sandy beaches, palm trees, and warm weather invite you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
But GO Trips do something to you. When you know your mission, distractions lose their pull. Your focus sharpens, and you start noticing people instead of everything else around you.
That’s what makes the GO Trip team that travelled to Tampa at the beginning of March so special. Especially if you travelled there from Alberta, Canada in what felt like the middle of winter.
As a staff member I was able to join the team partway through the trip, and I was struck by what I saw from this team of 19–20-year-olds. They weren’t focused on the experience—they were focused on the mission.
On my first day with them, we travelled to the University of South Florida campus in St. Petersburg with one clear goal: to share the gospel wherever opportunities appeared.
After a full day in the sun, a small group went for a walk along the pier—a short break before heading to a mid-week worship service on campus. Even then, their attention stayed outward.
As they walked along the pier, the sun setting over the water and pelicans perched close by; the moment felt calm—but not passive. That’s when one of the students spoke his mind.
“This feels wrong, it’s been like 20 minutes since we shared the gospel with anyone,” he said.
Without hesitation, the group began talking with people right there on the pier.
And that became the rhythm of the trip.
Every moment was an opportunity.
Every conversation was a chance to share the gospel.
On a Saturday while helping a local church set up a festival in the park, some of the GO Team began talking with the vendors instead of rushing past them.
While talking with one vendor, they learned that she wasn’t connected to the church. She was simply there to support her business and get through the day.
Right there, they told her what Jesus had done in their lives and asked her if she wanted Him to do the same in hers. It wasn’t planned—it was simply the moment in front of them.
She said yes. She prayed with the boys and asked them to introduce her to the pastor who had planned the event.
She has since started attending that church.
Stories like this filled the trip. Wherever these young men went, the gospel was shared, local churches were supported, and lives were changed.
GO Trips remind us that every moment can matter when our mission is clear.
If that awareness still feels familiar, maybe it’s time to GO again.
